Instead of the usual all-in-one reveal, the company may split the iPhone 18 lineup into two separate waves, with the highest-end models arriving first and the more affordable versions pushed into next year. That shift would change the mood of the entire event, especially if the long-rumored foldable iPhone finally shows up in public.
According to Bloomberg, the fall rollout could focus on the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable, which is expected to carry the iPhone Ultra name. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2, and iPhone 18E would then reportedly land around March 2027. If that plays out, Apple would be flipping the familiar script and giving its premium devices the spotlight while leaving the lower-priced models for later.
That kind of split release is a big deal for more than just timing. It suggests Apple wants the flashy, expensive phones front and center in the fall, when attention is highest and early adopters are ready to spend. It also spreads out the company’s revenue stream, which is the sort of move that makes Wall Street happy even if it leaves shoppers waiting longer for the budget-friendly options.

The biggest draw remains the foldable iPhone, which has spent years lurking in rumor territory. To make that possible, Apple may have had to ditch the telephoto camera and switch back to Touch ID instead of Face ID, a tradeoff that says a lot about what mattered most in the design room.
