APA Agrees To Acquire Savant Alaska, Nutaaq Pipeline For About $70M

APA has agreed to buy Savant Alaska for about $70 million up front, plus contingent payments tied to future development, in a move that folds Badami infrastructure, pipeline access and more than 100,000 acres into its eastern North Slope position; the deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval, and is meant to speed exploration and lower costs for planned 2026–27 drilling activities.

The headline number is roughly $70 million paid up front, with extra payments possible as APA moves the assets through development. The acquisition gives APA direct control of facilities and midstream links that sit next to its existing acreage, trimming logistical friction and giving the company discretion over how projects are sequenced.

Key physical assets include the Badami facility, which can handle about 40,000 barrels of oil per day, and the Nutaaq Pipeline, which has roughly an 80,000 bopd transport capacity and ties Badami into the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. Those capabilities matter because ownership of production and transport infrastructure can eliminate bottlenecks and reduce third-party fees that often inflate early-stage project economics.

The transaction also brings around 104,000 gross acres into APA’s portfolio, and the company will pick up production of roughly 1,500 barrels per day via its interests in the Badami and Grey Owl units. The purchase increases APA’s footprint on the eastern North Slope to about 487,000 gross acres, a meaningful contiguous position that supports both exploration upside and appraisal activity.

APA said the newly acquired infrastructure will support exploration and appraisal work planned for 2026 and 2027, including accommodation, grind-and-inject capabilities and a barge landing to stage operations. That on-site support is key for winter drilling campaigns in Alaska, where logistics drive schedules and costs in a way most onshore plays do not.

Operatorship of the joint venture has transferred to APA alongside partners Lagniappe Alaska and Oil Search (Alaska), and the company plans a two-well program during the 2026–27 winter season. One well will test a new play on western acreage while the other will serve as an appraisal well at the Sockeye complex, a mix that balances frontier testing with de-risking of known resources.

The deal adds roughly 17,000 net acres in the Badami unit and about 75,000 net acres in the Grey Owl unit, plus additional non-unitised ground near Badami. APA said controlling both field and midstream assets should accelerate project timelines, give it more optionality on development plans and reduce anticipated future costs for its North Slope operations.

“The acquisition of Savant secures control of strategic infrastructure adjacent to our eastern North Slope acreage, enhancing our ability to execute our planned drilling programme efficiently.

“As we continue to appraise and de-risk our resource base, ownership of this infrastructure provides greater flexibility and optionality in future development planning and represents a key step toward unlocking the potential of our position in Alaska.”

The company flagged that it will update guidance once the transaction closes, and that customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions must be satisfied before ownership transfers. Earlier in 2025 APA agreed to sell its New Mexico Permian assets to focus on priorities that include advancing its Alaskan position, a broader shuffle of capital and assets that underscores how companies reposition when frontier opportunities emerge.
