Adam Savage, known for his role on “MythBusters,” is diving into the world of longevity, exploring how our choices and habits impact how long we live. Now leading the YouTube channel Tested, he’s teamed up with Medtronic, a health tech company, to discuss what truly influences our lifespan. During an interview with Fox News Digital, Savage shared, “Longevity has always been a fascination for me,” emphasizing the universal desire to live a longer, healthier life.

Reflecting on his time with “MythBusters,” Savage explained how the show sparked his interest in scientific inquiry. He mentioned, “Making that show legitimized the practice of science and engineering to me,” which led him to realize how much of our world can be examined and improved through experimentation. This curiosity has driven him to investigate lifestyle factors that contribute to longevity, including diet, exercise, and stress management.

One intriguing aspect of his research is the concept of Blue Zones, areas where people live exceptionally long lives. Savage is curious whether longevity in these regions is due to geography or cultural practices. He noted, “We assume people in these areas live longer because of where they are, but what if it’s really just the way they live? That’s the part that fascinates me.”

Savage has personally experimented with various longevity strategies, like intermittent fasting. He shared with Fox News Digital how this practice helped him shed 25 pounds and alleviate sleep apnea. “It’s crazy how much of a difference it made,” he said, describing the positive changes in his health, including improved sleep and increased mental clarity.

His journey also led him to quit smoking, a habit he realized wasn’t bringing him joy. “I had to admit I wasn’t smoking for enjoyment,” Savage explained, emphasizing how acknowledging this made quitting easier. Similarly, he’s reevaluated his relationship with alcohol, choosing to reduce consumption without feeling guilty about occasional indulgences.

Savage believes that mindset and community are crucial for a long life. He argues that while scientific advancements are vital, lifestyle choices remain equally important. Medtronic is at the forefront of innovations designed to enhance both lifespan and “healthspan” through AI-driven healthcare, robotic surgeries, and advanced medical devices.

Medtronic’s mission is not only to extend life but to improve its quality. The company is exploring ways technology can help manage chronic conditions and improve overall health. According to Medtronic, their advancements could lead to significant improvements in long-term health outcomes, focusing on the quality of remaining years rather than just their quantity.

Savage is excited about the potential of science to redefine human lifespan, suggesting that living to 150 may not be so far-fetched. Medtronic claims that someone who will live to that age may already be among us. Savage remarked, “I think right now 150 is a very realistic target to be shooting for and to be discussing.”

The discussion around longevity is evolving, with more focus on healthspan, the period of life spent free from serious illness. Savage and Medtronic are at the forefront of this movement, asking critical questions and exploring the possibilities science offers. As Savage pointed out, “That’s really what science foreshadowing is,” envisioning a future where living to 150 could become a reality.
