• Chris Murphy was hospitalized after suffering a stroke
• Symptoms began while he was at his son’s hockey game
• He was first treated locally and then moved to Johns Hopkins
• Doctors said he was awake, alert, and responding to treatment
• Murphy has remained active on the campaign trail for Democrats
• The senator had a scheduled appearance in New Hampshire

Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut was hospitalized after suffering a stroke, according to a statement from his chief of staff. The news broke after Murphy began feeling numbness in his arm on Saturday afternoon, which led to an immediate hospital visit and then a transfer for closer monitoring.

The episode started while he was at his son’s hockey game, turning a normal weekend scene into something far more serious. He was first taken to a local hospital before being moved to Johns Hopkins, where doctors continued watching his condition closely.

“He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment,” she said in a statement.

The update from his office offered a more encouraging picture soon after. “The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”

Murphy has been a familiar face in Democratic politics since winning his Senate seat in 2013. He has also been mentioned as a possible contender in the party’s 2028 presidential primary, which has kept his profile high well beyond Connecticut.

In recent weeks, he has been on the road helping Democrats try to regain control of the Senate majority. That schedule included a planned stop in New Hampshire on Sunday, part of a push that had kept him busy across the campaign trail.

At 53, Murphy remains one of the younger names in the Senate, with a long political runway ahead if his recovery goes as hoped. For now, the focus is on the medical care in front of him and the next update from those watching his condition.
