Tye, 57, says Warren is not some random place on a map. It is the city where he was born, raised, and rooted, and that makes the reaction to his comments feel even more personal. He says the backlash has been loud, but so has the support from people who stop him in stores, at the bank, and around town to tell him they appreciate someone speaking up.
The trouble escalated after his remarks drew attention online and in the media. Tye says his home address was exposed, and one package sent to him included hostile stickers and feminine hygiene products, which he took as a petty attempt to humiliate him rather than engage with what he was saying. Still, he shrugged off the intimidation and said the backlash comes with speaking out on something people would rather keep quiet.
His criticism centers on how the area around his home has changed over the last several years. He says the shift accelerated after a mosque was purchased nearby, and he points to religious gatherings and growth in the number of mosques as proof that the neighborhood has become unrecognizable to longtime residents.
Tye described one Eid prayer service that, in his telling, arrived without warning and woke up the neighborhood with loud amplification and a crowd gathered behind the mosque. He called the scene chaotic and said it was another example of newcomers showing little regard for the people who have lived there for decades. That frustration, he says, is part of why he keeps talking.
He also says the changes are visible all over Warren, not just near one house of worship. During a drive through the area, he pointed to several mosques either newly built or under construction and said former commercial spaces, including an old industrial business and even a Baptist church, have been repurposed. To him, that is not a minor adjustment, but a major cultural shift playing out in plain sight.
Some of his neighbors echoed that same unease. One said Muslim-owned restaurants seem to be replacing closed American eateries, while another described the area as feeling taken over, adding that the people involved do not seem to care how it affects the community. The tone from those residents was not polished or political, just raw frustration from people who believe their neighborhood is slipping away.
Warren city officials responded after the doxxing and the public fallout, stressing that residents should not be threatened or harassed for speaking their minds. Their statement emphasized safety, privacy, and the need for disagreement without intimidation, even while making clear that personal attacks cross a line. The city also pushed a message of unity, saying there is room in Warren for debate, protest, and advocacy, but not for threats or hate.
That response did not change Tye’s stance. He says he is speaking not only for himself but for neighbors who feel ignored and for longtime residents who want respect from people moving into the area. The whole dispute has put Warren in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, and the tension on the ground still feels very real.
For now, Tye says he plans to keep talking, even if more people come after him for it.
