Kai Trump’s first week at the University of Miami came with the usual freshman jitters, only louder, more public, and packed with golf, family, and a whole lot of emotion. The 19-year-old opened up about leaving home, settling into campus life, and getting hit with strep throat almost immediately after arriving.
The video she shared gave a candid look at the messy side of a big transition. Between moving into her apartment, joining the women’s golf team, and trying to keep up with a fresh schedule, she admitted the adjustment was hitting hard.
In the days leading up to the move, Kai was still in Jupiter, Florida, wrapping up her old routine and mentally bracing for change. Even a casual drive home after a round of golf turned into a moment of honesty, with the weight of leaving family and friends clearly sitting on her shoulders.
“I’ve been, like, literally sobbing,” she said.
“It’s just, like, really sad that I have to say goodbye to, like, everyone today. I’m not, like, a very emotional person at all, so this is, like, really weird for me to cry.
“I’m just struggling right now just, like, thinking about it, but, like, I’m excited.”
That mix of nerves and excitement is a familiar college feeling, but Kai’s version came with a little extra pressure. She is the granddaughter of President Donald Trump, and the spotlight has followed her even as she tries to focus on school, golf, and getting her bearings in a new city.
Once she arrived in Miami, the practical reality of student life kicked in fast. Her friend Emma helped with the move and brought groceries, which turned out to be a very good idea considering Kai said she had barely managed to eat.
“Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven’t eaten in like three days,” Kai said in the video.
The early campus routine did not exactly ease her in gently, either. She talked through a 7 a.m. team meeting on her first Monday, sounding tired but determined as she got ready for the demands of school and athletics.
“I’m very tired if you guys cannot tell by my face,” she said while getting ready.
Her first week also included the fun part of being a new athlete on a new team, with official gear, Miami apparel, and all the equipment that comes with college golf. The excitement, though, got interrupted when she came down with strep throat just as classes were getting underway.
“I got sick with strep on Wednesday, my first week of school,” Kai told viewers later in the vlog.
“I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick. I needed, like, my mom to nurse me back to health.”
That return home added another layer to the story, especially with her family already dealing with a difficult stretch. Kai has also spoken publicly about the support around her mother, Vanessa Trump, during her breast cancer battle, a situation that has clearly shaped the family’s day-to-day life.
