Dutch Female Rugby Player Claims Injury Caused by Male Athlete in Women’s League: Leg Pulled ‘Out of Its Socket’

A young woman in the Netherlands has raised serious concerns about the fairness and safety of allowing male athletes to compete in women’s sports. Elena King, a 20-year-old rugby player, recently experienced a severe injury while playing in the Dutch premiership league.

This incident involved two torn ligaments, which King says will likely result in lifelong knee pain, caused by a male athlete’s strength she had never encountered in her sport.

King recounted the moment with a sense of disbelief, explaining how she felt the sheer power used against her. “I felt the strength being used against me: It’s nothing that I can explain because I don’t have that strength myself,” she shared in an interview. The injury was so severe that she heard a loud pop and described the pain as her leg feeling like it was on fire.

She is perplexed and frustrated about the inclusion of male athletes in women’s professional leagues. King expressed her hopes that no other female athlete should have to endure such a painful ordeal.

“I do not want it to ever happen to anyone again because I don’t want it to happen to me. It could have been prevented,” she insisted.

In 2020, World Rugby set a rule that generally prohibits men from playing in women’s rugby unless they transitioned before puberty. The governing body has recognized the increased risk of injuries when males compete in women’s rugby, noting a significant disparity in physical strength.

The statistics are stark, with a report indicating a 20-30% increase in head and neck strength in male players and 50-100% more upper body strength compared to women.

\Following King’s injury, the male player involved was suspended and required to undergo a training program. Simone de Bruin of Rugby Nederland explained, “A playing ban was imposed to allow the situation to be further investigated.”

De Bruin noted that a development plan focusing on game training was established for the player. After completing this mandatory training, the player will be closely monitored. It was emphasized that inclusion, fairness, and player safety are crucial principles in the sport, given the higher risk of injuries involved.

However, the official did not specifically address the increased risk posed by male athletes to female players. There was mention of upcoming advice on transgender policies to be issued later in the year. King believes that many women are hesitant to speak out for fear of being labeled as prejudiced against men who identify as women.

She coined the term “transphobia phobia,” describing it as the fear of being perceived as a transphobe, which she says stifles open discussion. “Not wanting to be seen as a transphobe, so then not saying anything because, you know, inclusion is important,” she explained. King emphasized that her concerns are solely about safety, not exclusion.

Women, according to King, generally strive for inclusivity and want the best for everyone, which leads to hesitation in addressing the issue. “We want everyone to feel included, so of course people are like, ‘Why not?’ But then you actually see the reasons why it’s not possible,” she remarked. The importance of maintaining women-only spaces was underscored by her experiences.

This sentiment is echoed by others who argue that female athletes should have the right to compete in a fair and safe environment. The conversation around this topic continues to gain traction, with supporters advocating for policies that protect women’s sports. As this debate unfolds, it remains to be seen how governing bodies will address these concerns moving forward.

Men have no business playing in women’s sports, just say no. I’m guessing most of these individuals couldn’t make it in the men’s world of sports. I question why we allow deranged individuals to dictate these boundaries, and what of the rights of the women who are severely injured?

I’m an able bodied athlete who identifies as disabled. Does this mean I can compete in the Paralympics?
I’m an adult athlete who identifies as a child. Does this mean I can compete in little league sports?
This is exactly the same thing as men competing in female sports. STOP THE INSANITY!
