Judge Royce Lamberth, appointed decades ago during the Reagan era but now clearly aligned with entrenched Washington interests, ruled that the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) must continue operating under outdated guidelines, preventing necessary reforms that the Trump administration was attempting to implement.
The Trump White House had moved swiftly to drain the swamp inside USAGM, the agency that oversees VOA and other taxpayer-funded international broadcasters. Under Trump’s leadership, USAGM’s politically motivated leadership was finally being held accountable after years of bias, poor management, and open hostility to America First policies. Yet it was the deep-seated corruption and political bias inside USAGM that made reforming VOA a priority. The lawsuit and the resulting court decision have temporarily halted that process, leaving American taxpayers on the hook for an agency many believe no longer serves U.S. interests effectively.
