The Trump administration’s Department of Education has set its sights on 52 colleges and universities across 41 states, alleging that these institutions are employing “racial preferences and stereotypes in education programs and activities.”
These schools are accused of collaborating with the PhD Project, a nonprofit aimed at assisting minority students in obtaining advanced business degrees, which the department claims infringes upon the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The Department contends that the PhD Project’s criteria, which supposedly limit eligibility by race, amount to “race-exclusionary practices.”
The PhD Project argues that its mission is to expand the talent pool of future business leaders, irrespective of race. They recently opened their membership to anyone who aligns with this vision, as reported by NPR. However, skepticism remains about whether such programs genuinely provide equal opportunities for all, with critics questioning the likelihood of white individuals applying to initiatives perceived to limit their professional growth in major corporations.
The proposed investigations have reportedly left many administrators feeling beleaguered and overwhelmed, according to Lynn Pasquerella, president of the American Association of Colleges and Universities. She conveyed a “deep sense of moral distress” among educational leaders. This upheaval is affecting not only state schools but also prestigious Ivy League institutions like Cornell and Yale, along with private universities such as Duke, Emory, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Rice, MIT, and NYU.
Moreover, six additional institutions face scrutiny for providing “impermissible race-based scholarships,” while another is accused of organizing a program that allegedly segregates students by race. The schools under investigation for these practices include Grand Valley State University, Ithaca College, and the University of Alabama, among others. The Department of Education has not clarified which institution is specifically accused of segregation.
Last month, the Education Department issued a “Dear Colleague” letter urging schools to dismantle their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. The letter emphasized that racial discrimination, both overt and covert, is intolerable and illegal under Supreme Court precedents. Education Secretary Linda McMahon asserted that students should be evaluated based on merit, not skin color, and vowed not to compromise on this principle.
Universities have pledged to cooperate fully with the Department’s investigations. The University of Chicago, for instance, reaffirmed its commitment to prohibiting unlawful discrimination. Similarly, the University of Oregon stated that it had reviewed its practices and believes it complies with the law, expressing a willingness to work with the Office for Civil Rights to resolve any issues.
In 2023, the Supreme Court attempted to put an end to affirmative action programs in higher education through landmark cases involving the University of North Carolina and Harvard. Despite these efforts, affirmative action persists under different names, prompting the current investigations. The Education Department’s actions are a step toward ensuring these policies align with legal standards.
Colleges, notorious for their aversion to transparency, are now under the microscope. Critics argue that many institutions have merely rebranded their affirmative action programs instead of eliminating them. The Department’s investigation aims to address these concerns and enforce compliance with Supreme Court rulings.
The ongoing scrutiny of DEI initiatives highlights a broader debate about the role of race in education. Advocates for merit-based assessments argue that students should compete on an even playing field. The Education Department’s commitment to ending race-based policies reflects this perspective.
As schools navigate these challenges, the future of DEI programs remains uncertain. Educational institutions must balance diversity goals with legal obligations. The outcomes of these investigations will likely influence how colleges approach diversity and inclusion moving forward.
The Education Department’s actions represent a broader ideological clash over the direction of American education. Critics of DEI policies argue that they perpetuate division rather than promote unity. The department’s focus on merit and achievement underscores a commitment to individual excellence.
As the investigations unfold, the spotlight remains on how universities will respond. The balance between diversity and legal compliance is delicate, and institutions must tread carefully. The future of DEI programs will depend on their ability to adapt to changing legal and social landscapes.
Ultimately, the Education Department’s probe into college practices serves as a reminder of the ongoing debate over race and education. The emphasis on merit over race is a return to foundational American values. This investigation marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s educational landscape.

DEI and AA are racist against everyone who is (European) White or (East)Asian.
The nggrs have been coddled enough. How much time was wasted on trying to brainwash Whites and Asians with that DEI bullsh*t???? What kind of job can a nog get with a degree in Women’s Studies or African History??? Even McDonalds wouldn’t hire them. They have no skills whatsoever, and then yell “yo be racissss” when they don’t get the job. College or no college, most nogs still read at a 3rd grade level and can’t do basic Arithmetic. Only one in a million have an IQ above 85. Not to mention they have zero-impulse-control, and fly into a rage over the smallest things.
They commit 95% of the crimes while playing the victim.
We’re all sick of their crap.
Absolutely and very well stated as to the actuality of these biased and renegade programs that only mess up society and do nothing of any redeeming value to produce a healthier and stronger society! Look how Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson when asked to define “what a woman is,” refused to answer that question directly and actually didn’t define a woman in a straight forward common sense manner; and “that is a Judge that we should want in the SCOTUS” dealing with making decisions that affect the well-being of the Nation, I think NOT!
Time to clean up all of this stupidity and absurdity in our Justice System and Society as a whole and stop these “Leftist Radical Destroyers” within from continuing this charade! The only thing this craziness helps is America’s enemies who want America to “implode and be destroyed from within” just the way Lenin, Marx and many subsequent evil Marxist monsters stated it would, so as they clearly stated they could take control of America “like ripe fruit falling from the tree into their hands;” that was the agenda set in motion by our staunchest enemies back in the early 20th century and still is! Time for everyone that cares about the survival of these “United States of America“ to wake up and resist this evil! It’s all gone far enough and already caused great harm!
@Lawrence M: I agree. 👍🙂
