New Documents Allege Biden DOJ Political Probe Targeted 160 Republicans

New documents released by Republican investigators show the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” probe cast a sweeping net over allies of former President Trump, touching senators, administration staff and conservative organizations, and sparking loud accusations that the Biden Justice Department politicized its investigators.

House Republicans say the trove of records reveals efforts to identify and investigate roughly 160 Republican associates tied to post-2020 election actions. The materials, they contend, point to a broad, aggressive focus by the FBI that went well beyond a narrow criminal inquiry. That scope has been framed by GOP leaders as more than routine fact finding and closer to political targeting.

The committee also highlighted specific targets that included White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino and senior trade adviser Peter Navarro, along with a senior operations official at a major conservative group. Those names underscore how many involved were high-profile conservative operatives rather than low-level figures. For Republicans, that breadth is evidence the probe was sweeping and unusual.

Republican lawmakers insist the documents came from whistleblowers and congressional subpoenas rather than from an FBI release, a detail they use to argue outside oversight exposed internal overreach. Sen. Ron Johnson characterized the findings as alarming during a recent briefing. He said they demonstrate potential abuse of investigative power inside the DOJ and FBI.

‘This ought to be a chilling message to each and every American who loves this great country and believes in our constitutional system and equal justice under the law.’

“New Arctic Frost documents reveal even further wide ranging investigation by Biden’s DOJ to take down President Trump and his supporters,” reads a from the committee on social media.

Senator Chuck Grassley made public more than 1,700 pages of records, which Republicans say show the investigation relied on broad subpoenas and data requests. Those records reportedly include correspondence, subpoenas and lists of phone numbers and accounts under scrutiny. The release has been used by GOP members to demand a criminal referral and new oversight into how the special counsel and Justice Department handled the case.

“Sen. Chuck Grassley just revealed that Jack Smith sent a subpoena to Verizon to tap my Senate office phone,” he posted Wednesday afternoon. “This comes after learning that nearly 20% of Senate Republicans’ cellphones, including mine, were also subpoenaed. Arctic Frost is the Biden DOJ’s Watergate, and they need to be held accountable.”

The allegation that a special counsel sought phone records tied to a senator’s office prompted immediate calls for answers about the legal basis for such requests. Republicans argue the move looks like surveillance of political opponents, not legitimate law enforcement targeted at specific criminal conduct. Democrats have pushed back, saying investigative tools were used within legal channels and appropriate oversight existed.

The dispute now centers on whether the Justice Department exceeded its bounds by compiling lists of associates and sweeping communication records, or whether investigators were conducting a lawful, necessary probe into alleged electoral fraud schemes. GOP lawmakers say the volume of people and accounts implicated—both in and outside government—changes the context from narrow investigation to broad political pressure. That argument underlies current demands for hearings, IG probes and potential criminal referrals aimed at DOJ leaders.

At the same time, conservative groups and some private citizens named in the files are publicly decrying what they call weaponized law enforcement. Those named argue this kind of scrutiny chills political speech and civic participation, making ordinary people fear legal consequences for engaging in public debate. If the documents are accurate, the episode is likely to deepen partisan mistrust of the federal law enforcement apparatus.

For Republicans, Arctic Frost has become shorthand for alleged misuse of investigative power by a political opponent and proof that stronger safeguards are needed to prevent partisan prosecutions. The dispute is moving quickly from internal committee fights to public messaging aimed at voters, and it will shape GOP oversight priorities in the months ahead. Expect more subpoenas, press appearances and legal maneuvers as the party pushes to force answers and potential accountability.
