National Guard Targeted By Democrats, Media Ahead Of Shooting

The article examines how Democrats and much of the corporate press warned that deploying the National Guard could spark violence or even derail future elections, and then saw two guardsmen critically wounded near the White House, underscoring the real-world cost of rhetoric. It tracks inflammatory statements from elected Democrats and TV personalities, the immediate law enforcement response, and reactions from the president and Republican officials. The piece argues the Guard and law enforcement deserve clear support, not fear-mongering that targets people in uniform.

Two National Guard members were shot blocks from the White House, leaving both in critical condition, and the immediate response from some Democrats and media figures had been to cast doubt on the Guard’s role. Elected officials suggested the Guard could be used to intimidate voters or act against Americans, framing ordinary deployments as threats instead of solutions. That kind of language matters when service members are on the line.

const observer = new MutationObserver((mutations) => { const adDivToHide = document.querySelector(“#dailycaller_incontent_1”); if (adDivToHide && dc_noads_page) { adDivToHide.classList.add(“hide-premium”, “hide-free”); observer.disconnect(); console.log(“Ad div found and hidden”); } }); observer.observe(document.body, { childList: true, subtree: true });

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker warned that the idea of sending the Guard into a city was “an attack on the American people,” claiming such deployments could be used to “stop the elections in 2026 or, frankly, take control of those elections.” Those are serious allegations about the motives behind law enforcement help, and they feed public distrust. From a Republican view, accusing troops and guardsmen of plotting to overturn democracy is reckless when they are doing tough work to protect communities.

Senator Elissa Slotkin cautioned that having military forces on city streets makes her “incredibly nervous,” and she suggested stress could lead to shootings, urging service members to “refuse illegal orders.” “My primary concern is the use of U.S. military on American shores … in our cities and in our streets,” she said, and then added, “It is … a very, very stressful situation for these law enforcement and for the communities on the ground.” Those exact words were public and influential, and they contributed to a charged atmosphere right before the shooting.

Television personalities took similar stances, with one co-host declaring, “This is a pretext to stop the next election.” When talking heads reduce complex public safety moves to election plots, they erode trust in experts and in the men and women who answer the call. Republican readers will see the irony: officials and pundits who warn about rights being taken away are casting suspicion on people whose job is to protect those very rights.

Law enforcement moved quickly after the shooting, and authorities reported a suspect was taken into custody, though details about motive remained limited. Local officials briefed the public about the conditions of the injured guardsmen while federal and city investigators coordinated the response. In moments like these, sober reporting and clear leadership should replace alarmist speculation.

President Trump posted about the injured Guardsmen and praised the National Guard and law enforcement, writing: “The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement.” His message framed the incident as an attack on people who serve and defended their sacrifice. Those words were aimed at bolstering moral support for troops during a tense moment.

There was confusion in the immediate aftermath, including a mistaken report by a Republican state official who later corrected himself, saying there were “conflicting reports about the condition” of the guardsmen. That kind of early miscommunication is common in breaking events, but it highlights why steady, accurate information from prosecutors, police, and federal investigators is essential. Republicans will argue this is another reason to avoid sensational claims until facts are clear.

The deployment itself had already been challenged in court, with a judge ruling the move unlawful and then pausing that ruling to allow time for an appeal. Legal fights over the city deployment do not erase the reality that mayors and governors often request Guard assistance when public safety is at stake. Republicans typically emphasize restoring order and protecting citizens, and that includes supporting Guard members called to duty unless courts say otherwise.

Public officials and media outlets must recognize how dangerous it is to vilify those in uniform when they are actively working to protect communities. The rhetoric in recent months laid a narrative that the Guard could be a political tool, but the shooting made painfully clear that guardsmen face concrete risks no matter the political debate. Elected leaders should focus on backing personnel who put their lives on the line rather than stoking fears for political advantage.

const observer3 = new MutationObserver((mutations) => { const adDivToHide3 = document.querySelector(“#dailycaller_incontent_3”); if (adDivToHide3 && dc_noads_page) { adDivToHide3.classList.add(“hide-premium”, “hide-free”); observer3.disconnect(); console.log(“Ad div found and hidden”); } }); observer3.observe(document.body, { childList: true, subtree: true });

The conversation after this tragedy should pivot to protecting communities and supporting first responders, while holding commentators and officials accountable for irresponsible claims. For Republicans, that means standing up for the Guard, demanding factual reporting, and resisting attempts to politicize deployments. The men and women in uniform deserve gratitude and clarity, not fear-based accusations that may put them at greater risk.
