TPUSA Spokesperson Reveals ‘Miracle’ That May Have Saved Lives During Kirk Assassination

A huge memorial for Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk will be held Sunday in Glendale, Arizona, at State Farm Stadium. The assassination on Sept. 10 shocked the conservative movement, and leaders and thousands of attendees are expected to gather to honor Kirk’s life and work. This moment is drawing the Republican family together to grieve and to remember what he meant to young conservatives across the country.

Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet stepped into a grim conversation online and apologized for having to address something graphic on X. He relayed a detail from medical staff that he said Kirk’s surgeon called an “absolute miracle.” Kolvet’s account has become central to how supporters are processing the violence and the strange luck that followed that day.

I just spoke with the surgeon who worked on Charlie in the hospital…He said the bullet “absolutely should have gone through, which is very very normal for a high powered, high velocity round. I’ve seen wounds from this caliber many times and they always just go through everything. This would have taken a moose or two down, an elk, etc.

I want to address some of the discussion about the lack of an exit wound with Charlie. I’m usually not interested in delving into most of this kind of online chatter, and I apologize this is somewhat graphic, but in this case, the fact that there wasn’t an exit wound is probably…

”But it didn’t go through. Charlie’s body stopped it.

Kolvet stressed that there were staff, students, and special guests standing behind Kirk who could have been hit had the round passed through. The bullet reportedly was found just beneath the skin, which the surgeon said was extraordinary for that caliber. For conservatives who lost a friend and leader, that small, grim fact reads like a blessing amid tragedy.

Kolvet quoted the doctor directly: “It was an absolute miracle that someone else didn’t get killed,” the doctor said. “It should have just gone through and through. It likely would have killed those standing behind him too.” Those are heavy words, and they have lingered with the community as they prepare to say goodbye.

“Even in death, Charlie managed to save the lives of those around him,” Kolvet added. “Remarkable. Miraculous.” That line has been repeated in private conversations and public posts as people try to make sense of grief and the strange mercy reported by medical staff. It frames a painful loss in a way that comforts many: he kept others from harm even as he was taken.

Kolvet also said he had to discuss this information and to push back on misinformation circulating online. The detail from the surgeon, he said, was offered to help clarify what happened and to honor the reality of those present. In a fraught media moment, conservative spokespeople are focused on facts and on protecting the memory of a man who built a movement.

Hundreds of people were present at the Utah Valley University event when Kirk was shot, and many eyewitness accounts have been pouring in. Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and charged him with seven counts, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors allege the killing involved an aggravating factor tied to political expression and that the defendant acted knowing children were present.

The attack has prompted renewed discussion about threats faced by public figures and the safety of political gatherings. Republicans have been blunt about the stakes: violent acts against conservative leaders cannot be dismissed as isolated incidents. Conservative organizers are pushing for stronger security at events and for clear, tough accountability for anyone who targets political speech.

In the wake of the killing, President Donald Trump praised the way that Kirk reached young people, saying, “I’ve never seen young people, or any group, go to one person like they did to Charlie.” That sentiment reflects the broad reach Kirk had with students and young activists, and it helps explain the size of the outpouring this weekend.

“No, he was an unbelievable talent, but it wasn’t really so much a talent. He just really believed it. He just believed it. He loved young people. He wanted to help young people, and he didn’t deserve this.”

That quoted tribute captures why conservatives are mobilizing around the memorial: Kirk dedicated himself to building a conservative future and mentoring a new generation. The raw affection in those lines underscores how personal this loss has felt for many who followed his work and met him at rallies and campus events. For a movement that prizes mentorship and conviction, his absence is keenly felt.

Security plans for the memorial have been formidable, with federal and local authorities coordinating a heightened protective posture for the crowd. Organizers and law enforcement have emphasized a top-tier approach to safety while respecting the need for people to gather and mourn. Thousands are already in line and counting, a sign that Kirk’s reach remains powerful even in death.

As Republicans gather, the focus will be on honoring a life spent recruiting and inspiring young conservatives, and on making sure the next generation is safer and stronger. There will be speeches, tears, and calls to action, and the community will use this moment to recommit to defending free speech and political engagement. Above all, they will remember the man who devoted his life to bringing young people into the conservative cause.
