New York Governor Deploys National Guard to NYC Subway System

In a significant step to address the growing safety concerns in the New York City subway system, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday the deployment of 750 National Guard troops and 250 state police officers to the city’s subway stations.

This decision follows a series of high-profile crimes on city trains, including an incident where a subway conductor was attacked in Brooklyn last month.

The National Guard troops and state police officers will collaborate with the New York Police Department to conduct bag checks at busy train station entrances. Governor Hochul aims to enhance security by deterring potential criminals from carrying weapons onto the subway system and boosting public confidence in using public transportation.

“No one heading to their job or to visit family or go to a doctor’s appointment should worry that the person sitting next to them possesses a deadly weapon,” said Governor Hochul. “They shouldn’t worry whether someone’s going to brandish a knife or gun. That’s what we’re going to do with these checkpoints.”

The integration of National Guard troops and state police officers into the New York City subway system is a key component of a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing safety in the city’s public transportation network.

Included in this strategy are plans to augment surveillance camera coverage and broaden the use of metal detectors within subway stations. Critics of the initiative express concerns regarding potential racial profiling and doubt whether it will effectively address the underlying causes of crime within the subway system. Yet, Governor Hochul staunchly maintains that these deployments are imperative to safeguard the daily commuters who rely on the subway.

The introduction of National Guard troops and state police officers into the New York City subway system represents a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to combat crime and bolster security in public transportation.

While the long-term impact of heightened security presence remains uncertain, it is evident that proactive measures are being taken by the city to address both resident and visitor safety concerns.

Are these Guard troops going to be armed? If not, it is a typical left wing response liken to trying to row a boat with two pieces of rope!

How bout restricting all of the “passengers” who are above 150 pounds with a BMI above 30 from the subway system ? That way only fat women could ride the subway. Snarc, snarc.

Why bother wasting the taxpayer money on “enhanced security” measures? The corrupt liberal Democrat DAs will just release the criminals back onto the streets before the ink dries on the crime reports.
