Trump Email Allegations Target Letitia James Office, Probe Ordered

  • Allegations of an internal push aimed at Trump-related targets
  • Email claims tied to the New York Attorney General’s office
  • Wiesenfeld, Maswoswe, and the disputed instructions
  • Office response and the denial of political targeting
  • Past discrimination claims and later settlement
  • James’ long-running clash with Trump and his businesses

A deleted email inside the New York Attorney General’s office has set off a fresh round of fire around Letitia James, after a prosecutor alleged staff were told to hunt for crimes tied to Donald Trump and his orbit. The claim puts a hard spotlight on the way political pressure, legal power, and internal office drama can collide in a very public way.

According to the report, Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld said he got instructions from his supervisor, Shamiso Maswoswe, to dig into Trump, Truth Social, Hewlett Packard and other linked entities without a solid reason to do so. The email was later said to have vanished from the office’s servers, which only made the whole thing look more suspicious.

The alleged message reportedly went beyond vague curiosity and instead told employees to “find and pursue crimes” involving individuals and organizations associated with Trump. That language is strong, and in a case already loaded with partisan tension, it is the kind of wording that instantly raises eyebrows.

James’ office pushed back fast, calling it a personnel matter and rejecting the idea that anyone was being singled out for political beliefs. The office said it remains committed to enforcing New York law evenly, which is exactly the kind of statement that usually follows a story like this when the walls start closing in.

Wiesenfeld’s account also pulls Maswoswe’s background into the picture. Before joining James’ office in 2022, she had worked in the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section and later sued the department in 2021, saying she had been unfairly fired and discriminated against because of race, pregnancy, and caregiving issues.

That history matters because it shows the people in this dispute did not come from nowhere. Maswoswe’s legal fight with the DOJ ended in 2023 with a $795,000 settlement, though the agreement did not admit wrongdoing and treated the payment as a compromise over disputed claims.

The story also landed in the middle of a broader fight over how aggressively James has gone after Trump. She made her name as one of his most relentless legal opponents, and the civil fraud case she brought in 2022 ended with more than $450 million in penalties before an appeals court wiped out the monetary punishment while leaving the liability ruling in place.

That backdrop gives the email allegation a sharper edge. To Trump supporters, it looks like another example of a hostile public office bending its power toward a political target, while critics of Trump see a familiar pattern of his allies trying to turn every investigation into a grievance machine.

The New York Post reported that Wiesenfeld was placed on paid administrative leave, adding another wrinkle to a story that is clearly still moving. When an agency starts dealing with deleted emails, internal warnings, and conflicting accounts, the public usually assumes there is more beneath the surface than anyone is saying out loud.

What makes this especially combustible is the language of mission and authority running right through it. An office that is supposed to enforce the law evenly cannot afford even the appearance of being turned into a political weapon, and that is exactly why this fight is drawing so much attention.

Trump’s world has spent years arguing that Democratic prosecutors are running lawfare instead of justice, and this episode fits neatly into that argument. Whether more details come out or not, the report has already deepened the sense that the battle between James and Trump is nowhere near cooling off.
