The big winner is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma, which KBB says has the best resale value of the year. The truck is expected to hold onto about 63% of its value over five years when properly maintained, and that is enough to leave a lot of nameplates behind. It also lands at the top in a year when the usual resale royalty, like the Honda Civic and Toyota Camry, did not even make the overall top 10.
That result may raise an eyebrow, since the Civic and Camry have long been the kind of cars people trust to age well. But resale rankings can be unforgiving, and 2026 shows just how competitive the market has become. The Tacoma’s combination of demand, reputation, and durability appears to have given it a real edge, and it is not exactly alone at the top.
Right behind it is the 2026 Toyota Tundra, which trails the Tacoma by a little more than 3 percentage points. Toyota also claims the third and fourth spots with the 4Runner and GR Supra, giving the brand a serious lock on the upper end of the list. That kind of spread is hard to ignore, especially when one automaker is crowding out rivals in the best possible way.
The rest of the top 10 adds a mix of utility, performance, and surprise value. Kelley Blue Book named Toyota the best overall brand for resale value, which is a pretty loud statement in a market where buyers often talk themselves into badge loyalty. Lexus, which is owned by Toyota, also took home the luxury resale title, adding another layer to the brand’s grip on long-term value.
Honda still showed up in the conversation, even if it did not land the big awards. The HR-V and CR-V both appeared in the SUV rankings, and the 2026 Civic posted a 52.5% resale figure that earned it a place in the car category. That is a solid outcome, just not the kind of headline-grabbing finish the Civic name usually enjoys.
Electric vehicles also made their presence felt, with the 2026 Toyota Prius leading the EV list at 53.1%. Tesla’s Model 3, Porsche Taycan, and Rivian’s R1S and R1T were also included, showing that resale strength is not just a gas-powered game anymore. Buyers weighing EVs against traditional options now have a lot more to think about than range and charging alone.
KBB’s numbers come from its Official Residual Value Guide, which leans on millions of reported automotive transactions. The final resale percentages are tied to a vehicle’s MSRP, so the results are not just a guess or a gut feeling.
