As New Yorkers grapple with soaring inflation and a spike in crime, New York Attorney General Letitia James finds herself in the spotlight for raising significant campaign funds amid federal scrutiny.

Just days after facing a federal criminal referral over alleged mortgage fraud, James is hosting a high-profile fundraiser. Tickets for the event vary in price, with the highest reaching the legal limit of $18,000, as reported by The New York Post.

The fundraiser is set to take place at the Manhattan home of LGBTQ activists Rod Grozier and Rob Smith. Smith, known for founding The Phluid Project, a company that champions gender-neutral fashion, aligns with radical leftist views. The event is promoted on ActBlue, a platform known for backing progressive candidates and causes, highlighting James’s supposed fight for rights.

However, critics question whose rights James is truly defending, suggesting it’s not those of New York’s taxpayers. The controversy surrounding James has intensified following a formal referral to federal authorities by the Trump administration.

Allegations point to a pattern of deceptive behavior, including claims about her “principal residence” being in Virginia, which could have tax and financial implications.

James allegedly used this claim to bypass New York’s residency requirements, possibly gaining financial benefits from homeowner tax breaks. In a recent interview on NY1’s Inside City Hall, James dismissed the accusations as a “revenge tour,” denying any wrongdoing. Yet, reports from The Gateway Pundit and White Collar Fraud suggest James has a history of mortgage fraud.

For over twenty years, James reportedly misrepresented her Brooklyn property on mortgage applications. Official records indicate the building has five units, not four, as claimed, allowing her to secure a favorable loan in 2011. This loan, part of the Home Affordable Modification Program, came with a low-interest rate, saving her substantial amounts annually.

Despite earning a significant income from various roles in 2011, James claimed financial hardship to qualify for this taxpayer-backed loan. Critics argue her claim was questionable, raising doubts about her eligibility. Additional allegations involve a 2023 property purchase in Virginia, where James declared a home as her main residence.

By doing so, she potentially violated New York’s residency requirements for her role as Attorney General. The Federal Housing Finance Agency referred the case to the Department of Justice, accusing James of falsifying records for a favorable mortgage. Another peculiar claim involves a 1983 property purchase with her father, where documents listed them as “husband and wife.”

This misrepresentation was an intentional move to secure better loan terms, constituting mortgage fraud. Such accusations are not new, as past claims question whether James unlawfully hired a nonprofit for her 2013 campaign. These controversies have cast a shadow over her current tenure as Attorney General.

James’s actions have prompted discussions about her motives and ethics. The ongoing investigations and allegations pose significant challenges to her political career. With federal authorities involved, the outcome remains uncertain.

Critics argue that James’s actions represent a broader issue of accountability among public officials. As the story unfolds, the public awaits further developments. For now, James appears determined to continue her political journey despite mounting allegations.

Her supporters, however, maintain their belief in her leadership and vision. The situation highlights the complexities of political life in New York. As investigations proceed, the impact on James’s career and reputation will become clearer.
