Meta, the tech company behind Facebook and Instagram, is set to pay former President Donald Trump a hefty sum following his ban from their platforms. The settlement, confirmed by spokesperson Andy Stone, involves $25 million, with $22 million earmarked for Trump’s future presidential library. The remaining $3 million will cover legal fees and other associated costs, as reported by NBC News.
The settlement has already been filed in a federal court in San Francisco. Under the terms, Meta does not need to admit any wrongdoing. The White House has remained silent on this development, not offering any comments to the media.
This case is tied to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, which occurred shortly before Trump left office. Following those events, Trump found himself banned from most major social media platforms.
