On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo appeared on MSNBC, where she made strong statements regarding former President Donald Trump, urging her audience to take decisive action to politically “extinguish” him.
This came just days after a second attempt on Trump’s life, which occurred on September 15th at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Raimondo expressed frustration over Trump’s persistent political presence, claiming he continually spreads falsehoods. “He says he’s the opposite. It’s just another lie. Like, how did we get here? Let’s extinguish him for good,” she said during the interview.
Her remarks implied that voters should unite to put an end to Trump’s influence once and for all. Raimondo emphasized the importance of supporting candidates who are sincere, pragmatic, and capable of leading with integrity.
She concluded, “We have an answer. We have a remarkably talented candidate who is sincere, who’s pragmatic, who’s open. Let’s just get it done.”
These remarks come against a backdrop of escalating violence surrounding the former president.
On September 15th, Ryan Routh, a would-be assassin, was arrested after attempting to murder Trump during a golf game in West Palm Beach.
This was the second assassination attempt on the former president in just two months. The FBI later revealed that Routh had been stalking Trump for two months, carefully planning the attack.
It is still unclear how Routh knew Trump would be at the golf course on that specific day, but investigators are continuing to examine the case.
This wasn’t the first time Trump has been the target of violence. Just two months prior, on July 13th, a young Trump detractor managed to shoot the former president in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
At the time, Secret Service agents left a building unguarded, providing the shooter an opportunity to aim directly at Trump.
While Trump survived, one of his supporters, Corey Camperatore, was killed, and two other attendees were severely injured during the incident.
These back-to-back violent attacks have raised concerns about the safety of the former president and the increasing volatility of political discourse in the country.
Despite the serious nature of these assassination attempts, Raimondo’s comments on MSNBC have ignited significant controversy.
