The former FBI Special Agent Kyle Seraphin is reportedly facing a grand jury investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, believed to be in response to his activities as a whistleblower over the past two years.
His advocacy for other whistleblowers who aimed to expose misconduct within the top law enforcement agency is also under scrutiny.
According to Seraphin, a federal grand jury has issued subpoenas for his social media posts on X/Twitter as well as those of suspended FBI Special Agent Garret O’Boyle.
Both individuals have been actively involved since 2022 in bringing to light what they claim are instances of wrongdoing within the bureau that pose threats to the civil rights of agents and the public at large.
In May 2022, Seraphin spoke out about various alleged abuses at the FBI during a video interview with investigative journalist James O’Keefe III at Project Veritas.
To protect his identity, Seraphin concealed his face and altered his voice in the broadcast. During the program, he revealed that the FBI had initiated investigations labeled as “sensitive investigative matters” into news media organizations.
“The FBI is trying to jam me up for an obstruction of justice charge, probably that 1512(c)(2), on the actual [Veritas] video that was released,” Seraphin told Blaze News.

More than 350 defendants who were present at the Capitol on Jan. 6 have been charged with a violation of 18 U.S. Code §1512(c)(2). This unconventional use of the law was contested at the U.S. Supreme Court, which determined on June 28 that the 20-year felony charge could only be applied if the accused had obstructed the use of documents or other evidence in an “official proceeding.”
O’Boyle was informed by his lawyer that he was not the focus of the grand jury investigation, according to Seraphin. However, Seraphin did not receive a similar notification, suggesting that he may be under investigation himself.
“If that’s what they’re trying to do, then it should be public and they [the FBI] should know that I know,” Seraphin said.
Seraphin revealed that the FBI revoked O’Boyle’s security clearance in July 2024, withholding his pay for 18 months despite knowing that it was Seraphin, not O’Boyle, who had been interviewed by Project Veritas.
O’Boyle had begun a new position at the FBI in September 2022 and was in the midst of relocating his family from Kansas to Virginia. On his scheduled first day, his FBI credentials and service weapon were confiscated, and his employment was suspended on the false accusation of leaking information to Project Veritas.
This abrupt suspension left the O’Boyle family homeless, as all their belongings were en route to their new residence. They were compelled to travel to Wisconsin and seek refuge in a camper parked at a relative’s home.
“If the FBI is going to do this to their own employees, what do you think they’re capable of doing to normal people in our society?” O’Boyle said in an interview with Blaze News. “The depth of the wrongdoing here on what they’ve done to me and my family is so deep that it’s close to impossible to even untangle.”
The cases of both men who blew the whistle and the recent expulsion of a 27-year FBI veteran just 90 days before retirement shine a light on an agency that seeks retribution against insiders for making legal, statutorily protected disclosures about alleged abuses within the FBI, according to Seraphin.
Revelations from current and former FBI employees have not prompted reforms within the bureau, but instead have led to vindictive efforts to silence and punish those who spoke out about COVID “vaccine” mandates, Jan. 6 SWAT raids, investigations of the Catholic Church, and various other civil rights violations, he added.
In spring 2022, Seraphin was suspended under the pretext of an investigation into his target practice with his service weapon at a shooting range on federal land in New Mexico. The sound of shots prompted calls to local police from a nearby school.
The police officer who approached Seraphin at the range determined that he had done nothing wrong and left without taking any action, according to Seraphin. The land was commonly used by the public for target practice.
According to him, the internal investigation initiated by the FBI was actually due to Seraphin’s refusal to take the COVID-19 shot being promoted as a vaccine among bureau employees. He sought an exemption from the FBI’s vaccine policy based on his Catholic faith because he believed that COVID shots were developed using cell lines from aborted fetuses.
Seraphin was also responsible for organizing an FBI chat group on the encrypted app Signal that focused on vaccine mandates.
“They went after Garret simply because we were connected together, we were good friends,” Seraphin told Blaze News. “My belief is they lined it up because they knew we both had gotten into that COVID group that I started on Signal, which had 300 FBI employees.”
In May 2023, O’Boyle delivered a poignant testimony to the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary, recounting the significant harm inflicted upon himself, his wife, and their four children due to a false accusation that led to his suspension without pay.
Accompanied by former FBI Special Agent Steve Friend, suspended FBI analyst Marcus Allen, and Empower Oversight president Tristan Leavitt, O’Boyle sought to bring attention to the injustice.
Following this, Leavitt penned a letter on July 22 addressed to Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz and the DOJ Office of Professional Responsibility, pressing for the reinstatement of O’Boyle’s security clearance.
“Despite knowing that SA O’Boyle had accepted a transfer, sold his family’s home, and had a newborn baby, the FBI — in violation of its own policy — waited until after SA O’Boyle reported to his new duty station to suspend his clearance, leaving him and his family homeless,” Leavitt wrote.
“Because the FBI’s actions against SA O’Boyle were clearly retaliatory, SA O’Boyle should have his clearance immediately reinstated, be returned to duty, and be provided back pay and benefits for his time on unpaid leave.”
O’Boyle stated that the FBI has not compensated him for the $30,000 expense of relocating his family from Wichita to Virginia. In a November 2022 email, an FBI official informed O’Boyle that reimbursement would not be possible until the investigation into him was concluded.
Seraphin has brought to light several instances of FBI overreach, such as an internal memo instructing agents to search for threats against local school boards or administrators in order to initiate domestic terrorism cases.
Many parents expressed concerns that they could face federal government scrutiny for voicing grievances about issues like drag queen story hours or school libraries housing explicit homosexual literature aimed at children.
Additionally, Seraphin revealed that the FBI was attempting to surveil and investigate individuals associated with so-called radical traditional Catholics, many of whom prefer the Traditional Latin Mass, as potential domestic extremists.
