Following Donald Trump’s decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election, a recent survey commissioned by StorageUnits.com found that over 50% of Vice President Kamala Harris voters are contemplating relocating, with some even considering moving abroad. The survey, conducted on November 6 and involving 1,837 Harris voters, sought to understand their reactions to the election outcome, their relocation intentions, and their top concerns under a Trump administration.
A Desire to Move, But with Reservations
According to the survey, 44% of Harris voters indicated they would like to move but probably won’t, largely due to financial constraints, family obligations, and community ties. Meanwhile, 5% of respondents stated they would definitely move, and another 5% said they are seriously considering relocation.
Of those considering moving, an overwhelming 90% are exploring options outside the United States, with Canada, the United Kingdom, and Mexico being the top destinations. Among those who prefer to stay within the country, California, New York, and Colorado emerged as the most popular relocation choices due to their progressive policies and perceived alignment with leftist values.
Top Concerns Driving Harris Voters’ Relocation Plans
The survey highlighted several key issues driving Harris voters’ desire to move:
- Potential Federal Abortion Ban: Despite Trump’s clear stance that abortion should be decided at the state level following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, concerns about a potential federal abortion ban remain high among Harris supporters. Fear of stricter abortion laws under a Trump administration is a significant factor in their desire to relocate.
- Racial Inequality and Social Rights: Concerns about perceived increases in racial inequality and potential rollbacks of progressive rights have led many Harris voters to seek environments they believe are more inclusive and aligned with their values.
- Healthcare Access and Gun Regulation: Other top concerns include worries about reduced access to healthcare, weaker gun regulations, and a perceived weakening of public education systems.
Realtor Jo Ann Bauer noted that some voters may consider moving from traditionally conservative (red) states to progressive (blue) states with less restrictive laws on issues such as LGBTQ+ rights and abortion access. However, she cautioned that practical factors like cost of living, job availability, and housing prices are key considerations that could influence any potential moves.
Generational Divide in Relocation Plans
The survey found a notable generational divide in the desire to move. Gen Z respondents were the most likely to express an intention to relocate, with nearly 20% stating they will definitely or probably move. In contrast, older generations, such as Millennials, Gen Xers, and Boomers, were less likely to consider leaving their current locations. Only about 30% of Gen Z participants said they had “no interest in moving,” the lowest percentage among the generations surveyed.
Trump’s Decisive Victory Sparks Reactions
Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential race was substantial, with the former president garnering at least 301 electoral votes to Harris’s 226 and winning the popular vote by over 5 million. This decisive win underscores a mandate for Trump’s conservative agenda, including economic revitalization, border security, and upholding traditional American values. Despite the backlash from some Harris supporters, Trump’s victory signals a continued shift toward conservative priorities.
Moving Forward with Conservative Values
The survey results highlight the ideological divide that continues to shape America. While some Harris supporters may be contemplating relocation, Trump’s victory represents a reaffirmation of conservative values, policies that prioritize individual freedoms, strong national security, and the restoration of economic prosperity. For many conservatives, this election marks a step toward a stronger, safer, and more united America—one that respects constitutional freedoms and empowers individuals.
As discussions continue and emotions settle, it remains essential to protect the integrity of American democracy, respect the election outcome, and work toward building a nation that offers opportunity and freedom for all. Trump’s victory is not just a win for conservatives; it is a mandate to lead the country with strength, vision, and a commitment to putting America first.
