The New York Knicks pulled off yet another stunning comeback against the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of their playoff series. After rallying from a 20-point deficit in the first game, they did it again on Wednesday night at the TD Garden, securing a narrow 91-90 victory. Now heading back to New York, the Knicks hold a strong lead in the series that has taken many by surprise.
During the game, the Celtics struggled to find their rhythm, particularly in the fourth quarter. For over eight minutes, Boston couldn’t make a single shot from the floor, despite having several open opportunities. Mikal Bridges played a crucial role for the Knicks, scoring 14 points in the final quarter to help fuel their comeback.
Jalen Brunson was pivotal as well, hitting a step-back jumper over Jrue Holiday to give the Knicks their first lead since the start of the game. This 87-86 advantage with only two minutes left set the stage for a nail-biting finish. Jayson Tatum’s drive to the basket gave Boston a slim lead with just seconds remaining.
However, Brunson was fouled on the subsequent play and made both free throws, putting the Knicks back on top. The Celtics, desperate for a last-minute hero, turned to Tatum once more, but Bridges thwarted his attempt with a crucial steal. This defensive play mirrored his decisive stop in Game 1 against Jaylen Brown.
Brunson, while not at his best offensively, managed to contribute significantly when it mattered most. He ended the night with 17 points, though his shooting percentage was below his usual standard. As a team, the Knicks shot 43% from the field and only 29% from beyond the arc.
On the other hand, Boston’s shooting woes continued, as they hit just 10 of their 40 three-point attempts. This poor performance added to their struggles from Game 1, where they also missed a large number of shots. Overall, the Celtics’ field goal percentage was a meager 36.2%.
The series now shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3, with the Knicks looking to capitalize on their home-court advantage. The Celtics will need to regroup quickly if they hope to bounce back and keep their playoff hopes alive. Game time is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
