CNN’s Jim Acosta is reportedly unhappy about his demotion to the network’s late-night slot, and he’s considering leaving the network altogether. This shift comes as CNN, known for its left-leaning stance, undergoes major changes under CEO Mark Thompson.
Acosta, who was once CNN’s White House Correspondent and a vocal critic of former President Trump, might soon see his role downgraded. Currently, he hosts CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta at 10 a.m. on weekdays.
Former CNN journalist Oliver Darcy, now running a media-focused newsletter called Status News, notes that CNN’s chief, Mark Thompson, plans to move Acosta’s show to midnight. Darcy mentions, “The offer caught Acosta off guard. He had no reason to believe that his current show would be on the chopping block. In fact, his ratings have historically been some of the network’s strongest, both when he was anchoring on the weekends and now at 10am during the weekdays.”
Acosta’s ratings often surpass some of CNN’s prime time programs, leading to confusion about why he would be moved to the 12 a.m. slot, a time when few hosts in the cable news industry are on air. This move would essentially sideline Acosta to a time when viewership is at its lowest.
TVLine has confirmed that CNN’s long-running show, The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, will be moved from its 6 p.m. ET slot to 10 a.m. This change is part of CNN’s latest programming revamp, with the show expanding to two hours. CNN’s chief investigative correspondent, Pamela Brown, will join Blitzer as co-host. The new time slot for The Situation Room means it will replace Acosta’s current morning show. CNN has stated they are in “active discussions” with Acosta about his future at the network.
The New York Post has reported that Acosta’s time at CNN might be coming to an end. The former White House correspondent, known for his confrontational coverage of President Trump, might choose to leave rather than accept a show starting at midnight.
According to the Los Angeles Times, this move could push him towards the exit. An unnamed CNN staffer told Fox News Digital that Acosta was “getting hosed.” They described him as a skilled broadcaster who could handle any slot on the network. “The midnight thing is shocking [but] it is what it is,” the staffer remarked.
Acosta made headlines again when Rep. Tim Burchett gave him a reality check, countering the CNN anchor’s anti-Trump stance when discussing the topic of J6 pardons. Acosta protested, “This is not Fox, congressman. You can’t just spin a tale and pull the wool over people’s eyes. This is CNN.” He insisted, “This is the news. We are asking you to come on and tell the truth.” In response, Burchett delivered a harsh reality check regarding CNN’s plummeting ratings.
Burchett pointed out, “And that’s why more people are watching the Cartoon Network, Spongebob reruns right now. Jim,” a retort that highlighted the network’s challenges.
As CNN continues to navigate its restructuring, the fate of Jim Acosta remains uncertain. The decision to move his show to the late-night slot has sparked considerable debate and speculation about his next steps. Acosta’s strong presence and history with the network make his potential departure a significant moment in CNN’s evolution.
With the changes unfolding at CNN, many are watching closely to see how the network will adjust its programming and talent lineup. The reshuffling indicates a strategic shift, potentially impacting its viewership and influence. Acosta’s situation is emblematic of broader shifts within the media landscape, as networks adapt to new leadership and changing audience dynamics.
The ongoing developments at CNN reflect a period of transformation, as the network seeks to redefine its place in the media ecosystem. The decisions made in the coming months could have lasting effects on its programming and public perception.
As media outlets face increasing pressure to innovate and engage audiences, changes like those at CNN are likely to become more common.
Amidst these shifts, the role of prominent figures like Jim Acosta remains a topic of interest. How CNN manages its talent and programming will be crucial in determining its future trajectory.
Acosta’s potential exit could signal a new chapter for both him and the network as they navigate the evolving media landscape.

“Quit?” Cue the laugh track. This self-aggrandizing whack job should have been FIRED long ago. Acosta is well beyond his ‘Use By Date.’ Anybody still bothering to view, or listen to, this ‘brain-dead’ example of human flesh should immediately schedule their long overdue lobotomies! As John Stossel would say, “GIVE ME A BREAK.”
They also threatened to go to Canada.
You can’t quit fast enough for me. You are so arrogant you wreak with unpleasantness! It spews from your pores. There’s not a man’s body wash that can help you!
Everyone at CNN should be fired and the building razed to the ground.
