Illegal Alien Sentenced, Deported After Judge Allegedly Aided Escape

Federal agents arrested and detained Eduardo Flores-Ruiz after an April courthouse confrontation that prompted criminal charges and a high-profile indictment of a Milwaukee County judge. Flores-Ruiz was sentenced to time served on a federal re-entry charge, faces deportation, and the judge accused of helping him evade ICE now confronts a separate criminal case. The episode has put law enforcement, courtroom integrity, and public safety at center stage.

Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, 31, was handed a federal sentence of time served and will be removed from the United States after being taken into custody in Milwaukee. He pleaded guilty on September 4 to illegally re-entering the country, and U.S. District Judge Pamela Pepper imposed the plea deal which included a promise not to return. Judge Pepper told Flores-Ruiz: “I very much hope you can find a way to make a living back home rather than coming back here.”

Flores-Ruiz will stay in custody pending his deportation, and his lawyer said the removal was expected “the near future” while declining further comment. That close custody underscores that federal authorities treated the case seriously and were intent on making sure removal actually happens. The sentence matches the federal focus on re-entry prosecutions and sends a plain message about consequences.

The whole situation traces back months, when local court business intersected with federal immigration enforcement. ICE agents flagged Flores-Ruiz as someone they expected to encounter at a spring court date tied to three battery counts. What followed in April is the flashpoint that turned routine enforcement into a nationally watched legal fight.

Prosecutors say Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan intervened as ICE officers attempted to take Flores-Ruiz into custody after his hearing. They contend Dugan “escorted” Flores-Ruiz and his defense counsel out through a back exit on April 18, which let him slip past the agents and flee on foot. Those actions would cross a bright line between judicial neutrality and active interference if proven in court.

The following week, FBI Director Kash Patel announced Dugan’s arrest for obstruction, , in part, “Thankfully, our agents chased down the perp on foot, and he’s been in custody since, but the Judge’s obstruction created increased danger to the public.” That statement from the director framed the alleged conduct as more than a procedural misstep and highlighted the risks law enforcement says it faced because of the interference.

Dugan was formally indicted in May and a federal judge later rejected a bid to toss the charges, finding the defendant’s immunity claim thin in the face of the indictment. “There is no basis for granting immunity simply because some of the allegations in the indictment describe conduct that could be considered ‘part of a judge’s job,’” Adelman wrote. The order made clear that a judge’s role does not include shielding defendants from lawful federal arrest.

The trial for Judge Dugan is slated to begin on December 15, a rare and serious proceeding that will test how far courtroom discretion can stretch before it becomes criminal obstruction. Meanwhile, Flores-Ruiz also faced state-level battery charges and entered a no contest plea to one count in October, receiving a sentence of time served in that matter as well. Between the state disposition and the federal plea, the immediate criminal legal chapters for Flores-Ruiz appear closed while deportation moves forward.

What remains is a larger question about respect for the rule of law and coordination between courts and federal authorities. The case has already forced federal judges to weigh immunity claims and prompted scrutiny of courtroom conduct that, if the allegations are true, put public safety at risk. For conservatives who prioritize secure borders and accountability, the episode reads like a stark example of why clear lines and firm enforcement matter.
