Darius Rucker, known for his success as both a member of Hootie & the Blowfish and as a solo country music artist, was recently arrested in Tennessee.
According to People magazine, he was released on bond after being charged with two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and violating state vehicle registration law.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office provided this information. Reports suggest that an arrest warrant was issued for Rucker in December 2023.
He voluntarily turned himself in to authorities on Thursday, as stated by a spokesperson from the Franklin Police Department on Friday. WCIV also mentioned that an affidavit revealed Rucker had been pulled over in February 2023, during which a vehicle search uncovered 14 pills and a suspected THC vape pen.
Rucker claimed that his girlfriend had given him these items and he was unaware of the nature of the pills.
According to WBTW, documents indicate that Rucker removed what appeared to be a small marijuana blunt from his pocket when questioned by an officer.
When asked if it was pure marijuana, he allegedly responded affirmatively. Although released at the time, it has since been determined through testing that the pills found were actually psilocin.
“Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges,” attorney Mark Puryear said in a statement, according to reports.
Rucker recently got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“People talk about streaming and everything, but radio is still king, still how you make it in country music. You got to work with them, let them see that you still care. \
I think when you stop caring, they stop caring, too,” Rucker has said, according to Variety. “I don’t know how much longer radio is gonna play me,” he said, according to the outlet. “Right now, I’m trying to try to be one of the elder statesmen, because in country music you can do that — still go play arenas without having a hit. So I’m trying to get myself up to that point.”
